We helped improve Shawbrook’s in-house skills, reduce ongoing development costs, and drastically shorten end-to-end delivery times By the end of the project, we had:

AND Digital was asked to lead a programme of upskilling Shawbrook to establish a high-performing delivery team. At the same time, we were challenged to deliver business critical software for the bank’s customers Shawbrook's in-house development capability, has now been significantly enhanced by addressing the challenges around reliable software delivery, legacy systems, and waterfall practices. This has enabled the company to accelerate their development momentum and achieve greater success in their software development projects.

The Process

Developing the culture to get more from tech

First, we focused on the team. With an Agile team in place Shawbrook could realise the full benefits of the software improvements we would make. We started with an Agile coach who supported weekly scrum events and helped to quickly establish the high performing Agile team. We provided Shawbrook with 1-2-1 coaching for scrum master, product owners and business analysts, ensuring that, once our work was complete, Shawbrook would be able to maintain momentum.

Key Technologies

Microsoft Azure and React JS

We built the new services in .net and Microsoft Azure, with the front end developed using React. Projects included:

      • Delivery of a mortgage product switch offer form, transforming how customer data was captured, stored and re-used. Delivered 4 months after the first product.
      • The delivery of a fully integrated initial mortgage product switch offer journey. Bringing together automated valuations, credit checking & a financial product decision engine in one place.
      • Additional improvements for the broker journey reducing the time to complete a full mortgage application from 40 minutes to 8.

Throughout the lifecycle of delivering these products and coupled with the continuous improvement approach of the agile teams we implemented deployment processes that reduced Shawbrook's deployment journey from 12 hours to just 2.

The Result

Enabling in-house development

In-house Training

Provided product management training for eight Shawbrook staff, including dedicated training for the product owner

 

Defining Product Function

Worked with the bank to define its product management function which would allow for ongoing funding, definition and iteration of the product

Optimisation

Identified optimizations which resulted in the end-to-end business process reducing from 112 days to just three

Cost Reduction

Run a bootcamp to upskill not only the in-house team but also the offshore partner to help reduce ongoing development costs

Provided 1-1 digital coaching for team members in skills across scrum mastery, business & product analysis, digital delivery & agile
