The dual experience
of women in tech

Women make up around 50% of the UK workforce. Yet in tech, just 24% of roles are filled by women. In tech leadership, that figure drops to just 5%.

AND Digital’s latest report, “Rewards & Resilience: The dual experience of women in tech,” examines the underlying causes of these statistics through a comprehensive survey. We surveyed over 200 female tech leaders and interviewed leading role models in depth; to learn about the experiences, challenges and opportunities women face in their roles as Tech Leaders.
Rewards & Resilience

The state of play for women tech leaders

As told by the women leading the way

A tech career can offer huge financial, intellectual and wellbeing rewards for all, yet women still only occupy 5% of tech leadership roles. Why is that?

To find out, we surveyed and interviewed 200+ women. What we uncovered was a story of duality: of women's determination, success and love for what they do, balanced by bias, imposter syndrome and a lack of support.

Our Rewards & Resilience report aims to:

  • Help more women reach leadership positions without having to display the resilience required of their predecessors, a resilience that isn’t required of men.
  • Present recommendations to harness the positivity as well as address the challenges for women in tech leadership.
  • Support aspiring women leaders with a ‘handbook’ of insights and advice from the report’s contributors.
  • Help the tech sector realise the full potential of more women, so they can help shape a better, stronger, more inclusive industry.
