Digital transformation in the automotive industry
14 May 2020 • 2 min read
Digital transformation isn’t easy, and the accelerated demand of the past 12 months has been unchartered territory, especially in the automotive sector. How does the industry align their in-person and digital offerings? How does the automotive industry digitise, automate and continue evolving?
To explore these questions further, we’ve brought together two highly knowledgeable figures from the automotive sector and invited them to share their own perspectives on what really matters in digital transformation.
Phil Norris, Director for Platform and Enablers for KINTO Europe, will be discussing “Why It Is Hard To Pivot, Is Why We Must”. With a focus upon smart mobility solutions, Phil will be addressing why OEM’s work as they do today, how they differ from their competitors and the options for change.
Andy Garrett, Chief Information Officer at Lookers, will look at “How We Accelerated Our Digital Journey And Kept The Business Going”. By creating a fully digital, contactless purchasing experience and launch of our online ‘Click & Drive’ it really has now put digital transformation at the top of Lookers’ boardroom agenda. Lookers continues to strengthen its digital presence with the ultimate aim to conduct 25% of sales online. The goal is to put customers at the centre of the buying experience and give them an omni-channel, whether that choice be by foot, by phone or by web.
Phil is the Director for Platform and Enablers for KINTO Europe. KINTO is Toyota’s latest global brand and aims to develop seamless and smart mobility solutions for everyone. Having spent more than 10 years with Toyota Financial Services (TFS) covering sales, marketing, product development and insurance he moved to Aioi Nissay Dowa Europe (AND-E) in 2005. AND-E enjoys a mutual shareholding relationship with the Toyota Motor Corporation, and operates Toyota Insurance Management as a JV with TFS, which acts as Toyota’s Insurance competence centre. His roles included marketing, country development, corporate communications and digital. Whilst he has been in the Toyota eco-system for more than 25 years only his first role actually existed before he took each step which reflects his forward looking approach.
Andy started his career in technology at Fujitsu and has worked for several big retailers over the years, such as B&Q, Screwfix and Travis Perkins; holding a range of senior roles in both Technology and Business Change.
Andy joined Lookers plc in 2016 to oversee the technology function and with the help of his team have delivered some significant technology changes to stabilise and now modernise the business.
Now as Chief Information Officer at Lookers, his role is to lead on the digital transformation of the organisation and deliver the technology that underpins it. Andy is responsible for overall business change and digital transformation, including strategic projects in all areas of the business; as well as continuing his responsibilities on the day-to-day delivery of IT Operations.
